                                          Music Video Task

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StFeOz901p8

Wrecking ball by Miley Cyrus represents women in a bad way because she is dancing around set naked with just her back covering her private parts from being viewed by everyone watching. The props are a wrecking ball which she swings on naked, enjoying herself as she does it. She also licks a sledge hammer sexually. She is wearing masacara as it smudges during the video. The location is in a small room with a wall put up and the ball swings through it. The camera is mainly zoomed out so that everything can be seen. An example of Miley Cyrus looking sexual is in the picture, she is licking the sledge hammer in such a way she is imaging it is something else, which is pleasuring the viewers, also in some scenes she is naked with just a chain covering her private parts.

California Gurls by Katy Perry represents women in a bad way because she is basically naked covered up by a piece of soap, the props are lots of candy and dice. She is waling through a make believe candy world that every sweet comes to life as something, for example a strawberry lace turns into a snake. Whilst naked she often winks and licks her lips. For example in the picture she is half naked and licking the candy and using seductive eyes to look at the camera.  The video often zooms in on her facial expressions, e.g when she is licking her lips.

McHammer cant touch this represents girls in a positive way because the girls and all covered up and look classy and are treated like queens, as well as looking classy they act classy, their facial expressions are not sexual in anyway. They do not look although they are surrounded by a big gang of boys and are being used, instead they are respected and not looked upon in a sexual way!

Minture Effect
  • Duplicate your background (image) layer.
  • Convert that layer for Smart Filters (Filter > Convert for Smart Filters) so you can go back and adjust the amount of blur we’re about to add.
  • Apply a Gaussian Blur via Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur. A healthy amount, say 15px, is good to start off with.
  • On that same layer, create a layer mask by clicking the mask icon at the bottom of the Layers palette.
  • Go to the Gradient tool on the toolbar and change the type of gradient to Reflected (fourth icon in on from the left).
  • With the mask selected on the Layers palette, draw a vertical line from the center of your subject to the top of the image. Where you start your line will be where it is most sharp.
  • Go back and double click on the Gaussian Blur layer to add or remove blur to make it a little more seamless.

Representation homework 2

In many rap videos women have no identity except as sexual playthings and "eye candy"
I agree with this statement because in many videos such as wrecking ball, Gold Digger by Kanye West and Blurred Lines most of the girls are in the video because they look "sexy" and attract young men therefore they are seen as eye candy. Furthermore this will imply to young men that girls are just sex toys. Also having girls in videos doing sexual things and seducing the men will be influenced on the younger generation, this is already happening when Miley Cyrus and Rihanna started to twerk (shake their bum in a sexual way) many young girls are now starting to twerk and it is now seen as normal, because a famous person has done it everyone is starting to do it. However this is not normal for an 11 year old girl to do because most girls should become such at a reasonable age such as 18.

'These images do provide pleasures to some viewers. But the concern is that men may internalise the notion that women are nothing more than sexual objects waiting to be used.'

I agree that the women in the videos give pleasures to some viewers - these are negative images probably being viewed by secondary school students. Therefore this links to that women are nothing but sexual objects waiting to be used because a virgin would think that all girls are like these women and would throw their body around you. Therefore an image is created and it could be stereotypical that women should have a perfect body, good looking and is pretty much a man's sex object. In this day and age the concern is that the videos become pornographic and that young children between 7-10 are learning about sex too quickly and seeing things they should not see. Therefore as the videos get worse by 2018 the representation for women would become different from when MC Hammer had video girls. They used to be classy and elegant and now you could call them not classy, fake and flash their body for money. This is all influenced by the Media and most children these days are surrounded by Media. There's the Nuts Magazines where young children can see, Music videos are easily accessible on YouTube, there would be no stopping these younger teens and children perceiving the negative approach/representation because the videos are becoming worse and worse.

These sorts of images are not unique to hip hop. Objectified female bodies are everywhere. They appear throughout our culture in films, advertisements, television programmes etc. However, within music videos, this is virtually the ONLY vision of women available.'
I disagree that these sort of images are not unique to hip hop because in the film Horrible Bosses, Jennifer
Aniston in the film plays a part that is very sexual towards men, her movement is seductive and provocative and this film was a 12 rating. Therefore many young children would be able to see what a stereotypical women is now. In the new Gilette advert there are two women in small clothing giving another stereotypical and negative representation towards women. In the programme Geordie Shore the girls are always wanting to pull men and have sex with them, this will tell the younger audience that girls just want to have sex and that to men they are just objects. This shows many different ways where young men can see what women are now represented as. And sexy, good looking women are now the only vision in Men's music videos because sex sells. And the more money the artists make the more girls they will use therefore Hip Hop Honey's will become worse over time till there will be action taken but there is none at the moment.
Will it be to late for when the children become influenced by the negative representation of women and how they should be treated and used?

What you have here is good and you have responded well to the question. You have used examples and

some terminology.

T: What you must do now is develop your points and fully explain them using multiple specific examples. Pick out some of the way the videos you have used for evidence backs up your point.

Media presentation

WWW:
My presentation was full of detail, pictures and explanations. The pictures were used as evidence to go towards our facts. for example one of the questions was about P!NK therefore we put the picture as P!NK.
It was well presented and included the words denonation and connotation which we was learning about, it also opened another door for us to include more detail and information.
Each slide was spoke and written by one of us in our own words and our own opinions, the presentation used a few opinions.

EBI:
My presentation may have had lots of facts and detail but it was not fun and the audience found it boring. Therefore lost interest and did not enjoy it.
The pictures on each slide were not dedicated to the question, they were just random pictures from the video.
My language in the presentation was not varied nor related to media as much as it could have been, the language was repetitive.

Does Hip-Hop represent a rigid and narrow version of manhood?
I agree with these statements because the rapper is trying to big themselves up to be a nasty, sort of person you would not want to mess with person and then they turn out to be a softie when they are not on camera then they are making a fool out of themselves because they are acting as they are because they have a job or came up from a certain background. In 50 cents video he is surround by girls which are half naked as a sign that he owns them and girls want to be with him, they are half naked to show that girls want him and he can do what he wants with them. He shows off his money by what he is wearing, such as his fur coat, diamond necklaces, rings and flash watches, the video is also shown in a big house. He is also sitting on an exspensive car, showing he can waste money as he is not driving the car.

It is not just 50 cent that likes to show off his money, recently it is not just rappers that show off there money, for example Justin Bieber, in all his video he is sticking out from the crowd by what he wears, such as chunky gold trainers. Going back to 50 cent, the language that he uses in his song candy shop show that the girls are controlled by him and that he gets pleasures from it "ill let you lick my lolly pop." The idea of videos such as 50 cents are to try and show that women should have perfect bodies and go for men with money, which is incorrect, in the real world women go for men with class, looks or personallity instead of men trying to look hard and rough.

50 cent is one of many stereotyped hip hop singer, the denotation of this is bling, tattoos, hat on backwards, facial expressions and also money or girls. The connote of this is that the bling shows off their money and that the girls go with the men because of the mens money, that tattoos are trying to show that they can take pain and also have money. Most rappers also make up stories which the press promote and make it believable, for example it is rumoured that 50 cent shot dead tupac...

On friday i woke up, no thanks to my alarm on my SMART PHONE. I then checked my TWITTER and INSTAGRAM. On the way to school i listened to the RADIO on my SMART PHONE.  In school i checked INSTAGRAM and TWITTER several times in that day. When i got home i watched the TV and played my PS3 all night, constantly checking my SMART PHONE.

In the morning i read the NEWSPAPER and then watched SOCCER AM on my TV. That got boring so i used listened to MUSIC on my IPOD. Around lunch time i watched YOUTUBE videos. I went out with my mates and was using my SMART PHONE to TEXT, TWEET, POST and READ. When i got back i watched MOTD on my TV.

On sunday morning i was woke up by my SMART PHONE ALARM. On the way to rugby i listened to the RADIO. I then watched myself playing rugby on a COMPUTER. When i got back i was on my SMART PHONE CALLING my friends. In the evening i watched TV and used the COMPUTER to do my MEDIA homework.
